This is the last DH album George and Kerry wrote on their own; I always thought that fact might have contributed to the general drop in quality after Sunbather. That being said, I still enjoy the subsequent albums, and think "Luna" stands toe to toe with anything on this, but I enjoy their first two records far more overall.

DoG is hardly blackgaze. Alcest are their own subgenre at this point. Numenorean... hmm. They aren't pure blackgaze, for sure. Some of their riffing belongs in a different kind of metal.
