I somehow can't understand why SNW is such a fan favourite. Don't get me wrong: I like many of the ideas on that album but imo you clearly can hear that they did SNW as a splittered group rather than a band. Chino stated in an interview that everybody was just doing his part and they put it together afterwards without any synergy or something. That's why for him it was their worst album on which I totally agree (except for Gore because Gore - for a Deftones album - just sucks big dinosaur balls...but the interview was way before Gore). That's actually why I love Diamond Eyes so much: everything just fits together so damn well, it is ONE sound. And that's missing on SNW. If they pulled this off on SNW...damn, it would be easily their best album.

Yup, the band was fucked up on drugs and even had a producer come in to help write some songs. That's why Chino hates the album so much, it hurt his ego having an outside force come in to guide the songwriting while everyone was blitzed out or not wanting to be around each other. It was a dark period for the band and it's remarkable that the album was as good as it was and that they stayed intact as a band even after Chi's death.

That producer should replace Frank

This live vid is showing pretty good what Frank is doing. His sound in the chorus is relatively loud here and you can barely hear it on record but it's there. Love him.
