Still need to jam these guys. Bought their discog but going through Manchester Orchestra, The National And The Dear Hunter first.
I have so much catching up to do, I love it

This album is amazing for sure. Rest of their discog doesn’t really do it for me though aside from a few songs.

Looking forward. I’ve heard Dream House and Brought to the Water. Both fantastic. Though the vocals/shrieking will take a slight adjustment.

George's vocals are the backbone to this. You'll grow to like em and they aren't overbearing because they're blended into the background very efficiently.

Good way to put it. I can tell it won’t be a problem, just gotta adjust a bit. Yes, from what I’ve heard, the vocals are very integral to the sound.

I've always dug George's vocals but I think he's at his weakest here relative to every other DH release. This is still their strongest album though

Haha, I'm glad you liked my metaphor!
"I've always dug George's vocals but I think he's at his weakest here relative to every other DH release. This is still their strongest album though" [2] Totally.
The vocals here are pretty much sunk in the mix, but it might be part of the album's success. I think George's best vocal performance is in 'Black Brick', becasue matches perfectly to the whole song, and the mix is spot on.

My feelings on the band have evolved since this album. This album is a masterpiece don’t get me wrong and it will definitely be my favorite of the decade and be a 5 for time to come. But sometimes I wonder if the band are really as smart as I thought they were. They churned out a fucking Mona Lisa here but New Bermuda kinda sucked and OCHL isn’t nearly as good as I initially thought. Kinda sucks. But I cling to this album nonetheless. It’s spectacular and comparing it to the rest of their discography feels almost unfair. Every moment of this album is vital and worthy of the praise, though. When all the blabber and hype wears down for the band all we’re really and truly left with is this. The band hasn’t topped it in years and haven’t shown signs of doing so. I guess we should celebrate this album a moment.
My thoughts on this album have not changed and will not regardless though. It’s almost like an idiot savant hitting all the right notes. It just makes me wonder how they went wrong in the following years. Maybe it was backlash and expectations. But I love this album because it was fully fleshed out before those sort of pressures were put upon them. They didn’t give a shit if they were shoegaze or black Metal here and it truly shows. They cared too much in the following albums.

It was really great read, BushedRed. This is just a masterfully composed album, very close to me, and I can't get enough of it.

Completely with you BrushedRed, this has gotta be my AOTD as well. Hasn't lost an ounce of its appeal in the six years since it came out. It being so singular in the band's discog maybe adds to the appeal.

didn't they hint about going back to the studio a while ago when Black Brick came out? I think i noticed a gap in their tour dates this summer which seems convenient.

Will be cool to see where they go next. My gripe with their stuff since this record is that they keep trying to incorporate all these throwbacks to classic metal bands and alt rock stuff. I enjoy it, but this record is their best because the post-rock/skramz/bm combo they pull off so damn well. The solos and chug riffs they do always sound like a high school metal band. It's fun but its got nothing on the songwriting on sunbather

Say what you want about this album and band, but it's hard to think of another metal record that has had the kind of impact that this has had for the duration of the entire decade.
