Don't forget depression and anxiety. Jamming this today after reading the users decade list. Still remember when this came out and was all over the place. It's rare these days that albums have such an effect

Oh boy, I just listened to my first rap record and I gotta admit: It lived up to the hype. Even though it was tough to follow through the lyrics as a non native speaker, I could catch a lot of it and tbh it made this record a rather demanding listen - in a positive way. I think most my 5s were kinda exhausting listens, masterpieces are not effortlessly flowing and have edges.

However, the flowing "beats" and instruments here are kinda countering the heavy lyrics which makes this record so interesting. I like how Lamar mixes two genres that emerged out of black culture (rap and jazz) to gather attention for race relations.

Good review btw. As far as I understood, this is more about "blacks should stop fighting blacks and work together to achieve equality" than "color does not matter".

butt.

You write well for English not being your first language. And I agree, the contrast between the smooth flowy beats and heavy lyrics makes this album really interesting

I disagree I think there's hundreds of better rap albums out there. It’s great for those just getting into hip hop but compared to the countless classics of the past 4 decades it’s not very remarkable to me.

Looking at your ratings right now and you’ve given many classics low scores so I can’t really take your taste that seriously.

You gave 1’s to Eazy Duz It and The Eminem Show

2’s to 2001, Marshall Mathers LP

And 3’s to Doggystyle, Amerikkkas Most Wanted, Death Certificate, Straight Outta Compton, The Cold Vein, Lifestyles ov da poor and dangerous, 6 feet deep, 93 til infinity, modal soul, and metaphorical music

Idk how any rap fan can dislike those (especially the lower rated ones) yet still act like they have the correct opinion lol

I’m just saying, I don’t think they’re really that into hip hop so to argue that this album is one of the best is kind of strange when they don’t seem to be that knowledgeable or appreciative towards the genre’s bountiful amount of great albums
