It is however putting money in the pockets of Jesse Lacey

Brand New's tour brought Jesse apologists out of the woodwork so I would pretty confidently say it's contributed to the world sucking lol

Both valid points above tbh

Fwiw, Dbizzles' take is the correct one. I honestly don't care all that much if anyone still listens to them or insert whatever artist because that line is a personal one. The annoying bit for me is when people aren't being clear-eyed about it and, for instance, start unironically talking about how grooming minors isn't all that bad or go off about Polanski because "why not."
There's always a bunch of whataboutism and the demand for hard lines from the apologists to prove that nobody is pure in order to help justify to themselves what they are engaging with, without ever to stopping to think about what that actually means. Nobody is asking anyone to be pure, but there are a lotta strong suggestions to be normal. Sci-Fi and TDAG are classics in my eyes, but I can't listen to them. If you want to, cool, but just don't start mansplaining about how Jesse isn't all that bad or he's done his penance

I think anyone who likes Brand New has always liked Brand New? It's not like people were silently never mentioning the band and needed a reunion tour to "give them permission" to talk about the band. That's not really a change, it's just more of the same.

| |
everyone knows i'd be the last person that should comment about someone listening to an artist like brand new or any other problematic artist. it's the excuses for seeing them live that's indefensible imo

"It's not like people were silently never mentioning the band and needed a reunion tour to "give them permission" to talk about the band"
run the stats on the number of posts per day minimising the severity of JL's behaviour and the ethics of supporting him in any way financially from a) the years before the reunion and b) the weeks following, and tell me with a straight face that this point is at all relevant to anything odal just flagged
on which note
"I honestly don't care all that much if anyone still listens to them or insert whatever artist because that line is a personal one. The annoying bit for me is when people aren't being clear-eyed about it and, for instance, start unironically talking about how grooming minors"
yes fucking thank you, can we please drop this conceit that this discussion has ever been about people LISTENING to BN as opposed to materially supporting them or otherwise endorsing their platform. the number of people who still can't get their heads round that distinction and think the words art not the artist have any business coming out of their idiot mouths

I'd argue that has more to do with the anti-Brand New contingent being so much louder after the reunion as the ones that are instigating the responses. I honestly believe the same responses would have occurred last year if the anti-Brand New crowd was saying the same stuff then.
|
| |
well, i'm sure that's a lovely belief for you to hold onto, but if you're even interested in engaging with the circumstantial truth that all this discourse has emerged in the wake of their reunion and the accompanying question of whether it's appropriate to support their tour cycle, idk what you expect to add here beyond vapid conjecture and baseless generalisations about the state of the 'industry'

If I buy a ticket off of a reseller, is that okay because there's a middleman, even though the ticket price will be way higher for me?
And when we're talking about a $50 concert ticket that gets split amongst 7 live band members, lighting crew, sound engineers, merch workers, the rights to book the venue etc, how much money does Lacey see from that one ticket at the end of the day. $5, if even?

I don’t really have a horse in this race but I mean $5 is still more than zero dollars lol weird argument to make

It's an insignificant number is what I'm saying, he can't even buy a carton of eggs with it in this economy.

Idt they would be touring if the margins weren't significant. Dumb point. Also drama aside, these guys can get fucked for having dynamic pricing on their ticket platforms

Never cared for this one

That’s nice, but you’re off topic

The Devil and God is the only good one and it’s only kind of good. You can live without it people. Go outside and ride a bike. Tell your mom that you love her. You’ll feel better.
