When has the art industry ever demanded ethics and morality? The best of all time in whatever medium are usually all terrible people.
|
| |
Dog, artists fucking hate other artists. Painters get called on their shit by the art community regularly.

I will totally go to their show when it comes to me if life permits. Will also check out any music they release.
I am completely of the separate the art from the artist mentality. But I don’t hate on people who think differently than me and won’t support those they have moral qualms with. But I expect the same respect from them in return. It’s not a right or wrong thing. It’s just a perspective.

We all have our line. His transgressions feel closer to me than those of other problematic artists and as it reverberates all throughout the band's art itself, I personally can't (or won't) separate the two. Haven't listened to them since the allegations came out, traded in this vinyl unopened the first chance I had. I won't support the band in the future, but I try to respect the choice of those that will. When I have trouble with supporters is when they downplay the situation to the point that they aren't justifying their support but taking the position that the feelings of others are invalid simply because they disagree.

its an agree to disagree regarding still listening to the band for sure. it becomes a different conversation entirely if youre putting money in the pocket of the man. thats a real "look at your priorities as a person" moment and i have no issue calling it as such

with music like this I get emotionally invested super easily, i have to be incredibly careful not to get invested in his lyrics and vocals so i find myself avoiding it, may have been easier to reconcile if this band wasn't an emo band built around emotional connection - relating to what essentially amounts to an abuser's manifesto after knowing of the abuses would reflect poorly on me and have me questioning my own morality
also i would never spend a dime on seeing this band live even if i didn't feel immense guilt any time I try listening

"the world sucks so im gonna contribute to the world sucking" isnt the defense you think it is
|
| |
that’s the defense men take when they refuse therapy
|

but hey if the entire Democratic Party can hold hands together and call jill stein a russian psyop it’s maybe not the worst defense ever

wonder if Jesse had that mentality when he coerced nude photos out of teenage pubescent girls

You would have to be pretty delusional to think that Brand New's tour is "contributing to the world sucking." This band is not implementing tariffs and tanking the stock market.
