i'm not saying their approach is wrong, it just rings as incredibly judgmental to sit there like "you have bad taste if this style doesn't work for you" because, like I said, I tend to like more varied sounds in my metal
if we don't count my massive core background I'd say prog metal's my favorite "real" subgenre bc it feels like it has the most opportunities to get wild with it, in spite of some Dream Theater cheesiness (they're far from peak prog imo), compared to the more progressive DM bands this feels a bit safe/tedious for me
