New song is definitely better than the first one. Made me realize tho, I really hope we get Ray doing more of the drunk-slur-vocals that we heard a lot on their first three releases! I like the hopeless ominous ramblings to balance out the screaming

I don't know what the fuck Raygun is screaming about but he sounds demonic on PEN IS MALL. Love how the song goes through so many stylistic changes and that doomy breakdown was great. Deep Blue was good but also sounded like a half dozen other Chat Pile songs.

The video for the new song has a bunch of cool people in it (namely Matt from Pissed Jeans and Garrett from My Wife's an Angel)

What about Dominic from Meatflaps Caught in the Tire Spokes? He's featured too, right?

I never got why or how when a song is angrier, nastier or heavier is an indication of better quality or gives more credibility to the band that does it. The lyrics and the video are way cooler than the actual song. Song's itself is ok, i preffered the previous one.
But i guess at the bottom line it always comes to personal taste and preference.
Band continues to rule hard though.

It's just nice to have variation sometimes. Doesn't mean the song is leagues better than others, but Chat Pile adhere to a very particular and bespoke formula that, personally, can get tiresome. It's why I thought Deep Blue was a fine song, but you can't argue that it sounds very much like Chat Pile while PEN IS MALL takes a slight detour with the various changes in dynamics.

I wasn't talking about this song in particular, was more like a general obsevation. I'm all for variation and I always champion bands who does this.
Maybe i need more time with this. Bass tone is crushing and the doom-esque end is great.

Sure. I mean if I were to use a recent example, look at "Dehumanized" by BMTH. Yeah, it sounds heavy and pretty gnarly but it's still just an okayish song relative to most deathcore. PEN IS MALL, to me, was a combination of not only variation but actually being a quality song on top of it.
