Another single “winds of no change” dropping tomorrow. Not sure what the thought process is behind dropping a single 2 days before album release but whatever. Still not gonna be able to resist listening to it.

The latest song is good, elevated a bit by the choir in the background. Otherwise it's standard Katatonia.

Loved the opening with the drums and bass and then the guitar riff. Wish they brought back that energy later in the track. Not a bad song, but nothing super memorable for me overall. Maybe my least favorite of the 3 singles.

Same. At least the riffs seem to be coming back, I guess. But I was hoping it would be more adventurous based on its opening.

I kinda understand that, the last two albums seem so formulaic and routine in retrospect, even if I regarded them very positively after hearing them for the first time. They're just not exciting. I am pretty hopeful for this album though, it feels a bit more dynamic judging by the singles.
Still very excited to see the band live this year, will be my first time.

Just the standard Swedish mindset.

Just listened through the new album (minus the singles, so didn’t get the whole experience). It is good. It’s one that will take a handful of listens through for it to click though I think. Definitely not the straight forward hooky jam that is the last album. I really like the majority of the mix on the album. Those drums are just slappin.

This album was pretty mid, so was City Burials, but I'm still holding out for something great from them

Ummmm I this new one is gonna be at the tail of my Kats ranking

I need more time to digest, but on first listen it just feels really meandering, just like Sky Void of Stars did for me. Albums like NITND and DEK (FOH to some degree) had the perfect balance of good hooky songwriting with enough progressive elements to keep it interesting. The last few Katatonia albums, this one included just lack that.

Probably still gonna like this new album more than city burials but I don’t foresee it ranking above any of the other albums. For me Katatonia begins with Great Cold Distance. I don’t really listen to their stuff prior.
