"cheesy and generic", sums up my opinion I guess. Kinda like the clean melodic twists that make bands like Fear Factory and Slipknot unlistenable. Same for the overtechnicality and counterproductive exhibitionism of bands like Dream Theatre. Or superhero movies. It's not the fact that it's slower or that it's "not the old Converge", to me it's just that it's a questionable and not particularly well executed marriage of genres.

To be fair, this isn't such a bad Evanescence album ;) Seriously though, have to say this got a little better on second listen. I doubt it could grow much more on me (the synths, the vocals, the corniness), but I can see the appeal.
