Also comparing old mastodon to new mastodon is perfectly acceptable seeing as its the same members. The newer music has been more than good in a lot of ways, they just sort of cleaned everything up a bit (which I feel affects my overall interest in them for the negative)

Love the album, can't stand Had It All though. I love a great ballad, but a band like Mastodon should never have attempted it in my opinion.

Sometimes it be like this though. If you do this enough/are that obsessive over it, every time a new piece of music hits your speakers or flies off the radio and you sit there with a "what's good/bad"/"why is this good/bad" rather than simply acknowledging you like "this" and banging your head to it - you might fall into this category of over analysis i.e. the study has taken over and it's no longer fun.

Coming at this band after many years of indifference. I bought the Blood Mountain cd when it came out but they've never really been my thing. But this is something. Opener is a great song but main observation is that it sounds like 90's Stone Temple Pilots or another 90’s alt band. Not a bad thing just unexpected because I haven’t followed these guys

Halfway through it right now. Second Part of Skeleton of Splendor is some Welcome To The Machine shit. Solis are excellents.

I'm more of an instinctive 'feeling/vibe' whilst listening kind of guy, but then do a 180 when I hit ol' Sput as I feel the need to justify my opinion with layers of (likely) transparent analytical bullshit.
