On a relisten this is kind of a mess. I feel like a lot of the use of shoegaze in metal is superficial. Like just because you put shoegaze in your metal album doesn’t automatically make it a smarter or more thoughtful than one without it

yea lol metal has consistently been an ethereal genre of music in some way. they may not even think of the less abrasive side of their sound as shoegaze

Idk maybe I’m projecting in my previous comment. I think my problem is that I find White Pony overrated and I don’t want every metal band in the 2020 to be Deftones wannabes. WP is still a good album, but there are other nu metal albums worth ripping off.
