I think it's basically what Ryus said. it's anecdotal, I can't prove it, but young people think this band is lame. which who cares but can be somewhat interesting to track taste and trends that way. in the same way that "young people" collectively were really into steely dan [if you deny me this anecdotal phenomenon I will not listen. that shit was so real.] during COVID

I think the doors r like somewhere in between lame and cool personally. their sensibility turns me off and I think the organ makes it a bit homogenous texturally (which is unfair: what do I need, "more guitars"?!) but they have some good songs and I think they went for it and tried something a liiiiiiittle difference

idk re the sound, that's why it's cool. Because you can't really find anything sounding like this now (that I'm aware of).

no idea what the 'Morrison's mystique' thing is all about or why that'd be an obstacle for getting into them - like, is that something anyone actively thinks about? What I mean is, do you have to like someone's personality to dig the music? Especially when it isn't a contemporary band you actively support / go to the gigs etc. Weird

Well I'll just have to accept sona's anecdotal evidence - and wait for this band to get popular again.

"this band definitely didn't "age well" for the new gen yeah, I think a lot of people got sick of the jim morrison mystique".

It's curious you say that robertsona. First, the band couldn't age well due to the sudden dead of Morrison. Second, as Demon said, I cannot see any band sounds like them, nor in the past or now. Third, the mystic of Morrison stands still. What all impresses me most is the aura and mystic of him, even in the new generations. That can perfectly seen in the real excursions to his grave in Paris at the Pere Lachaise Cemetery. I could witness that when I visited Paris some years ago. I myself went to that cemetry due to him, despite the big names of artists buried there.

yeah but yall are applying your standards ryus and I just talkin about what the kids think. lots of bands whose career were cut short nonetheless "aged well" I just think they are not fashionable now but also who cares, why talk about it. I have to listen to this again but I dont have much interest in exploring the discog, most of the songs I like of the ones I know are here

"this band definitely didn't "age well" for the new gen" - I agree if compared to my generation (youth in the early to late 90s). But then I think it's more surprising how well it actually aged until my Gen. It was the ultimate consensus band among alternative/indie crowd, metal heads, hippies, dub/reggae people... Not that they don't deserve that, but why them among all 60s/70s choices?

I agree that some of the best tracks written by them are here ant this is their best work, robertsona. Still, Strange Days and L.A. Woman are also two amazing works. Besides, as a prog fan, what impresses me most with The Doors is that despite they aren't a prog band they have many traces of that. For instance, L.A. Woman is a bit different work from what usually they did. So, a question can be made. What would be the future music of the band if Morrison hadn't passed away? That reminds me the same with Led Zeppelin. And this is one of the reasons I love both bands very much.

yeah, I was questioning why anyone would care about the mystique / weirdness of a guy who's no longer around... it's not like he's always in the public eye, saying or doing strange things for people to object to. I was just surprised anyone would consider this as part of the 'coolness factor' and thus make their associated music less attractive a proposition. Then again, kids are weird, didn't understand them even when I was one... so?

Not sure how true this is, but apparently that Oliver Stone movie was the final nail in the coffin for making the Doors uncool.

the fact they may be considered uncool is a revelation to me (and if anything, would've likely made me more steadfast in my appreciation of them... if I'd been conscious of such things before this point). You have to stick up for the underdog etc.

Ah, just realised...

yeah, I was one of 'those' kids, this explains a lot re what I said ^ there actually
