@Sowing Listen to Worship and Tribute and Coloring Book if you haven't. They are their best projects imo. I think this album is a great standalone album if you've never been exposed to gj, but for longtime fans it becomes a lot more when you hear this album continue in the sound of their two EPs while also being their heaviest album yet.

Long time Deftones and GJ fan...
Seriously they don't sound that similar to me other then making loud, agressive at times, melodic, progressive rock/metal/PH.
The only time I actually listened to Deftones and thought, hey this reminds me of GJ a bit was the last time I listened to Adrenaline.
Maybe it's because I was into them both early on and have listened to all their albums many times

Yeah, as a long time fan of both I never get the similarities aside from a few song (Jesus Glue could fit in anywhere in Around The Fur, Cut and Run reminds me of Diamond Eyes for some reason and maybe Vanilla Poltergeist Snake) but in a superficial kind of way. Pretty much what tcat84 said.
Also, aside from Gore, new Deftones ain't that bad. Then again, my favorite Deftones album is Diamond Eyes.
