Is this thing linkin park, imagine dragons, chainsmokers or the 3 of them combined into a single shitty album?

Most likely.
De-evolution to soulless arena alt-pop/rock seems to default for dying once-greats recently.

"good pop album not sure what the issue is"

It's not good as a pop album

I think it is. The hooks are memorable, the choruses catchy, the vocals good. Maybe my expectations for pop are too low.

I’d sooner jam this over THP

Me too. So much of their late career stuff was feigned heaviness.

That is exactly the problem I have with THP in particular. ATS is their true crowing achievement after the first two albums, and this isn’t a bad direction at all, it just lacks flavour imo. It’s far less contrived than THP though

While I agree THP is basically ATS and LT with some heaviness phoned in, it still has very creative rock songs like Rebellion, Guilty All the Same, A Line in The Sand and Mark the Graves. Final Masquerade also proved they still had great ballads in them. None of that remains here. If you like catchy pop music with nothing else going on then sure you'd like this, I guess.

if Bennington hadn't tragically passed away, the album's average rating would be even lower i think

Objectively speaking, this is the worst album in the history of recorded music. And LP is by far one of THE worst bands EVER!

You know, this album isn't THAT terrible.

That being said, I listen to a lot of nu metal, and revisiting HT recently has reminded how much that album and Meteora really stuck out from the rest. They were so creative and ambitious with those albums.

But this? I'm sorry but its so hard to call this anything but a cash grab. It sounds so painfully middling and generic. Its like a knock off of a knock off, and done poorly at that. Revisiting this just leaves such a poor taste in the mouth, unlike their early work which seems to get better on every listen. Blah. I know, real creative opinion, but its true nonetheless.

sad thing is, you could replace every band member but Chester and you couldn't even tell this was any different. So soulless, so produced. When "I guess this is okay?" is the best compliment to your album, that's not a good thing.

This feels like a thematic sequel to A Thousand Suns. It has that same pop-like quality similar to Suns did.
