When preorders for this were up, I was like nah but after listening, I regretted not getting the black/gold marble pressing before it sold out. So I was just browsing for Ulver merch and there was randomly one left. Whoo I didn't have to pay over $100

there is no depeche mode sounding anything on here.... might as well say it sounds like any 80s synthpop group, makes no sense

Animals probably wasn’t inferring this, but Depeche Mode are far from typical 80s synthpop; their music is usually gothic/dark, atmospheric, and melancholic, so it’s not far off to hear an influence on this new direction from Ulver.

Bwahaha no Depeche Mode on here?

Bruh we're talking about Ulver's latest album, not their debut album Burgertits or whatever it's called

This is unique Ulver through and through despite those influences

You are too defensive about this. Strong Depeche Mode influences are fine.

"90s club music"

What 90's did you live in?

90s club music gets pretty diverse. The Future Sound of London, a major influence I hear in at least a few Ulver records, started out playing that and evolved into the ambient soundscapes of Lifeforms and Dead Cities that are considered hugely influential on ambient/avant-garde electronica, like Ulver for example. I'd say The Future Sound of London are more-or-less just as influential on here as Depeche Mode.

definitely bands like massive attack and future sound, but i am just not personally getting the depeche vibes. did they say they were influenced by them for this? i guess its definitely possible.

Eh, I can't imagine anyone hearing World In My Eyes and a song on this one (at least one of the first half) and not seeing the connection.

i don't see the connection. depeche mode is dark yes, this is dark, but there needs to be more than that. vox, drums, synth, bass - on all dm's albums theyre totally different than this album. granted, much of 80s music was dark, so the comparisons you could draw with that are probably vast.

i was just wondering if the band actually said this is a tribute to dm or something to that effect
