Nippon Budokan (all of them) were the first things I watched after hearing Arche but I have not seen the Utafumi stuff. I'll have to look it up.

The Utafumi Blu Ray is just some Arche songs plus 2 others, it's a cool watch if you want more Arche live performances. You've been 3/5 of their best lives already (especially DSS's Budokan) but you've got still so much gold to get through :]

The DSS Budokan was amaaaaazing. But for some reason I don't like that album as much as Arche and Uro. I think I haven't given it a fair chance. What are the other 2? Utafumi and??
EDIT: How do people less than 3 this? I'm baffled at some of the ratings (without opinions) on Diru's discog.

Aww, I love DSS and think it's on par with Arche/Uroboros. Hope it grows I guess :[
Utafumi isn't performed on that live Blu Ray, it's Hage and Rasetsukoku. Also to answer your question, some people absolutely hate this band.

I'm sure it will! I still have it 4'd haha. I think it's an amazing album but Uro was the first metal album I heard that actually challenged what I thought was metal and Arche just seemed to take the best parts of Uro and combine it with the best parts of DSS. I'm going to run through DSS for the week and see if my opinion changes!
Ahhh I see I see. I don't understand how people (absolutely) hate this band. I can see how it's not their thing...but damn.

DSS is their best for me, but it wasn't always that way. Do give it more chances.
The band has its fair share of naysayers, plus the fanbase can be rather terrible.

" Arche just seemed to take the best parts of Uro and combine it with the best parts of DSS."
More like it's the best parts of Uroboros/Arche mixed with old school influences and flavours. Arche means origin, so it's them going back to roots under a new skeleton while keeping it distinctly newer Dir. As for DSS most of the appeal of it in terms of their discography is the lack of melody and how brooding it is compared to Arche/Uroboros, definitely a big grower. It makes the traces of melody that are there stick out even more when it happens.

It took a while for Dum Spiro Spero to grow to the same level as this and Uroboros for me, but listening to it late at night sure helped that case. It's the most atmospheric of the three and also the most subtle. So yeah, give it some time.

Ahhh thanks for the lesson / anecdote guys! I'll keep that in mind and listen to it tonight and focus more on the absence of melody this time through. Much appreciated!

Once you get more accustomed to it, you can dig deeper into the live discs, as some of their best performances are from the DSS-Unraveling era.

And their early lives too, 5 Ugly Kingdom master-race :D

Hardly their best from the early times, though (Blitz5 and Tour08 represent).

I actually prefer listening to the DSS-Unraveling era songs live than on record. I think some of it HAS to be the production, but maybe it's just me *shrugs*. It's not bad, but it sounds so much...bigger? live.

@Evo: Na ;) But those 2 are quality.
@Lead: Depends on the performance and DVD you're watching tbh. In terms of DSS's Budokan yeah it sounds absolutely massive.

DSS studio has the best production out of all their albums, though, but DSSkan sounds indeed incredible in the case of lives, followed by Tour13 Ghoul (such an overlooked disc, but I take it that you've seen it).

I'll take DSSkan's production any day since it's in my eyes their best mix in general, but yeah DSS studio production crushes.

The more I listen to DSS the more I like it ~ I think I'm going to start trying to pick up/writing on the guitar because this band is just so inspirational lmao.

Yeah, DSS grew on me too...actually DEG as a whole grew on me to the point I can say I'm a fan of most of their work. By the time Arche was released, I was a fan for only 4 months. Toshiya's got me picking up the bass more frequently and try to learn some of his bass lines. I even got aspirations to get one of his signature model basses one day, haha.

Cool album but def the weakest out of the 'power 3' records.
