3.4 is pretty fucking generous.

Nah I'd say it's about right.

Album Rating: 3.5
this is average tbh, has its' moments here and there but mostly it just enters one ear and it's out the other
|
| |
That's because it is almost impossible for an album released after 2010 to get an average higher than 3.7 in here
|
| |
Modern albums do tend to be held to a higher standard on the site, but there are plenty of albums released after 2010 with an average higher than 3.7
|
| |
not saying they don't exist, the thing is, if a post 2010 album has an average of 3.5-3.7 it actually means that the community really enjoys it

Agreed with Death.

People are definitely harsher with more recent albums
|
| |
That also means that modern albums with an average of 4.0 or higher are actually classics by sputnik standards, I think
|
| |
"People are definitely harsher with more recent albums"
I'm probably guilty of this too tbh
|
| |
I rank modern albums by the same standards as old albums, but I almost don't check modern albums so my ratings won't help them haha

Album Rating: 4.0
same. I'm still in the process of getting versed in the classics lol
|
| |
If it's not a release from this year, I pretty much rank all albums by the same standard, but I think the reason I tend to be harsher on albums from the current year is because I don't want to blow my load and label an album as the best thing I'll hear this year (either mentally or in discussion with others) before the year is over. I don't guess that's exactly fair, but yeah.

I just don't think about AOTY or any of that kind of thing. I rate according to what I hear, not according to the hype.
|
| |
I know. I do too, but I just think that I tend to take longer with albums from the current year to break through a certain ceiling.
|
| |
Album Rating: 4.0
yeah that's absolutely fair. I mean I couldn't bring myself to 5 TPAB even though it probably deserves it lol

Then try reconsidering your ratings at the end of each year
|
| |
That's kind of what I plan on, SirLord.

I just rate albums when I feel like it, my AOTYs list never crosses my mind during the year tho, only at the very end
It also helps that most of the time I don't even know in what year the album was released lol
|
| |
also worth noting that the demographic of the site changes over time and is quite different from what it was in 2010.
