Can confirm, was insta 5.

One time, i listened to this on the bus and, for reasons i can’t figure out, it made it more depressing

I consider it a positive that I've not felt the need to jam this in a while. Second verse of They'll Only Miss You remains one of my favourite sets of lyrics going. Really captures desperation so vividly.

'just pretend every other track is post-rock, stop trying so hard to enjoy whatever sense of touristic distance your keyboard is opening up for you, and you'll be fine'

at the risk of stating the obvious here, what is the purpose of this comment? I don't think it really makes sense as a dig, but okay. Touristic distance? Eh

Album obliterates personal distance and if you're still listening to it 4 listens in without getting why, you're looking at it through the window of a tour bus

"at the risk of stating the obvious here, what is the purpose of this comment?"

this is a broken sentence and my nerves hurt

‘Touristic distance’ combined with ‘keyboard’ could’ve been interpreted in a rather different way, almost like you planted it there on purpose… t’was vague

Ah, so what you’re really saying is you need to connect with the themes. You could probably have just said that but whatever. Instrumentally this didn’t interest me, I noticed a few lyrics relating to depression or isolation which I could’ve maybe connected with, but I need more than that. It’s not exactly uncommon in music.

"what you’re really saying is you need to connect with the themes. You could probably have just said that"

well maybe i didn't because the formal-thematic unity here is so watertight that it's plain boorish to amputate one from the other

will also maintain that the builds on They'll Only Miss You/Farewell/Low Budget are far stronger than the majority of post-rock and that the straight slowcore tracks are no less exceptional
