Haven't been listening to quite as much music, but I've been well. Moved down south for a job. It's been pretty great. Food is often comparable to Chicago in how good it is, but people are much chiller. Can't imagine having to deal with tight city traffic like the NYC traffic now, hopefully you snag a remote job, they're a fucking godsend, dude.
I feel like this summer is either gonna be the summer of DGD or a big disappointment. Next album is in a weird place for sure. It won't be like the early era, but Secret Band's second album was fantastic and the new DGD album has had much more time in the oven.

relistening to this now and its mad how much pop influence has crept into this band
really think after instant gratification they got maybe too poppy.

@Tranqyl ayyy congrats dude that rules! and yea I've been through the grit and grind of driving in nyc when I pick up my gf from work sometimes and it is brutal dude lmao, but I've gotten used to it.
I feel pretty confident the new album will be better than Afterburner but it won't touch their best stuff. I'm sure I'll really enjoy a lot of it tho lol
@mort idk if poppy is the right word because they've sorta always had that pop feel to them, tho I do get what you're getting at. I think the main thing is that they've for sure settled into a groove and just wanna stay in that zone. The early days of a revolving door lineup outside of Matt, Will, and Jon led to a lot of creativity and different sounds. They haven't had a major lineup change in a long time, unless you wanna count Andrew Wells joining but he's had a hand in some songs prior to joining anyway.

"getting poppier was one of their best ideas they just didn’t go far enough"
Fuck no. Mothership is the only time that pop influence ended up working out. Instant Gratification and Artificial Selection have some great tracks or portions, but pale in comparison to their original stuff. Afterburner is a fucking travesty beyond a select few tracks like 'Say Hi'.
@Steak, I'll never get used to city driving. Traffic in Texas is far more aggressive, but there's always more lanes. Thank fuck for more lanes or it would be the collision capital of the world.
@Mort, I understand financially and mental-health-wise, why they stuck with Tilian, but I absolutely agree with you.

YO i can't believe how much i love this album! I mean I used to jam it back in the day but I forgot how good it is
I don't know if it reaches some highs of DBM1, but it jams all the way through. Might be my favorite DGD
the chorus of Privilously Poncheezied is another level

Choruses on this are fire. Previously Pncheezied, Swan Soup and Purple Reign are too damn good
