I dunno, it's definitely not on the same level as Music and (especially not) Geo for me.

Why are they named 'of Canada' but their not Canadian? Completely ruins the vibes for me. I absolutely adored them until I found out they were Scottish which undoubtedly means they smash their wives faces' in while out of their minds on low grade skag.

idk if you're being sarcastic but they get their name from the National Film Board of Canada who used to air cool clips, shows, and bumps that they take a lot of their aesthetic inspiration from.

idk how people could think mhtrtc is better than this. like its a brilliant album but its just a compilation of a bunch of their older songs into a major release and its pretty clear that thats the case cause its a lot less cohesive as a single body of work in comparison to all their other releases. i mean for me when im listening to this its clear they had a very specific vision when they set out to make this and its clear because as a whole album it works really fucking well and like while mhtrtc has some incredibly brilliant moments, ive really never felt like they had any specific intent behind it, its sort of just a set of songs with similar sounds and atmospheres and emotions put together. like its an amazing album but i just dont see how it compares

that this has more of a cohesive sound than mhtrtc (a statement i don't necessarily agree with) isn't a testament to how much better it is. it's that singularity that makes it so boring at times, and the tracks that step outside that vibe (palace posy) seem grossly out of place as a result.
all that considered, i think i came off a little too aggressive with my criticisms for this a few months back. it's hard for me to appreciate because it's not as textural and layered and colorful-sounding as their old stuff, it's much more ambient. one of the things i do like about it, however, is how dark it sounds, and how cool some of the samples are (white cyclosa comes to mind)

yeah, was just gonna say this. but tbh i think i like the 2 albums pretty much equally these days. this has fast become probably my favorite album

i like it a lot more these days. had to adjust my rating.
it's hard and somewhat unfair to compare this to their previous works, which is one of the reasons i was so put off by this initially. for what it does it does it very well though, if i'm in the right headspace for it (which is admittedly rare). i'm digging the hell out of it at the moment though. that ominous bell-tolling or whatever it is in white cyclosa is so awesome. i love the little samples like that one. i also love how easily their music evokes memories from long ago - something they've always excelled at
