So why haven't the people that are so in to this album and Michael Gira checked out his other band, the Angels of Light? Only one of their albums has any ratings and it still only has three.

that's not how sputnik works
but yeah angels of light are no swans but they have that one good album

Never got into Angels. They just don't hold my attention like Swans. Same for World of Skin.

Still odd to not see any ratings, whether good or bad.
I've only heard the world of Skin tracks that were released with the Children of God/World of Skin compilation. While not amazing some of the individual tracks like Red Rose are neat.

RE: Angels of Light
How I Loved You and We Are Him > a good portion of Swans releases, at least for me anyways.

Update: Ok, So I am listening to "A Piece of the Sky" (no skips, I am 9 minutes in so far) and I
guess what I am feeling is what you guys like. It kind of grabs a hold of you and clears your mind.
Holy shit ok, just now the drone stopped and it went into drums/guitar. Strange. Maybe I was wrong
about my opinion of this album. I feel like listening to this type of music would severely limit
one's tolerance for more straightforward music, however. It certainly is another way to approach
music. I think I am going to skip a relisten (and ultimately a rating), as while this album offers
something great, I don't have the need for the feeling this style of music produces. This heavily
contrasts the music I like, which is mostly metal and rock. I am just not ready for this. Maybe in
10 years.
Original comment
Just commenting to say this is the first time I have ever listened to Swans, so here it goes.
I've been through Radiohead's discography, and that type of music is reserved for special occasions,
like long drives in the dark. This album reminds me of that feeling, but it seems that the musical
aspect is lacking. There are no real memorable tunes, it is just repetitiveness throughout the whole
album. Yes I see why you guys think it is great, and I guess I'm just not old enough to crave music
that emulates the inner workings of the mind. I don't listen to music to feel anxiety, I listen to
music for enjoyability. If 93 Ave. B Blues is supposed to be a good song, then obviously this isn't
for me.
I respect the fact that so many of you love this album, and I am happy you like it. My opinion may
be one that is still underdeveloped. I think I am too young to really have a connection with this
type of music (18 if you didn't know). Like Sowing said, the repetitiveness is an acquired taste.
"Drone" many call it after some researching. A good way to clear the mind, yes.

That's what happens when people like something. I can't even say if it is an actual change in opinion after hype died down (which I wouldn't mind) because there are so many troll/anti-hype ratings floating around.
It's still number one of 2012 on rym, because they don't have the same troll issue.

Huh, I actually thought Avatar was one of the less interesting tracks. That of course doesn't mean it's bad at all. Love the drums in the intro.

It is a really good outro, but the song feels more predictable and the vocals aren't as memorable to me.

hey, i just want you to know that i've been going on this site for a while and your reviews are consistently full of specious artificial ideas, hypetrain opinions, and lofty uninspired word choices. you have the same disease as pitchfork of being hyper-concerned with anecdotal context and feigned objectivity towards shit you clearly don't know very much about. all of your reviews are poorly written, especially the sentence structures and the HILARIOUS transitions such as "Speaking of halves.." Worse, you write with the horrifying pretension that you're somehow a beacon of musical veracity for the people who aren't writing 8th grade essays like this one and instead just want to listen. and just basically you're the worst regular on this site. this is one of the most prolific bands out there, and thinking you can just throw that quote in there and satisfy your credibility is fucking sickening. you should stop infesting music with your garbage, please. do it for me
