Everything else that he did in the 90s was either cheesy as fuck or downright awful, but he did put out a few great albums in the last decade. I just think that he'd only benefit from working with different producers. Swizz beatz's productions were never that great to begin with, but now they sound incredibly dated along with not being that great.

It Was Written is inconsistent, a problem that Nas has struggled with ever since releasing Illmatic. Production-wise, Illmatic is in a different ballpark.

The beat-selection on this is impeccable.



I love It Was Written, but I can no way hold it on this level - I guess we will have to disagree on this.

The great songs on It Was Written are great, but most of the album lacks the energy and all of the timelessness that made this album such a classic. It's a good album and a classic for that style of hip-hop, but too much of it makes me cringe (almost every hook on the album).
