if you force the youngsters to listen to old dad rock they know they're gonna hate they may do it but i highly doubt they'll listen to anything old anytime soon after that.
instead show them old music they could actually like. this way they'll become curious about it and start discovering on their own. there's a chance they might even try dad rock once their used to the old shit and like it then.

No you can't, because the term is used exclusively for the popular rock bands + bands that share their sound with them. Nobody calls Can dad rock, it's always The Beatles, or Rush, or Pink Floyd etc. It's all about the number of dads trying desperately to share their favourite records with their chidren, and last time I checked there weren't that many dads listening to Can (at least in comparison to the Led Zeppelin ones).
