I absolutely love this album. The review itself is confusing, because it starts off like a good review. I agree with the sentiment that he could have wrote the review without listening to the album, and just fill in the bits and pieces.

I don't understand the hatred that has bestowed Mastodon since the release of Blood Mountain, and even further with Crack the Skye. They have progressed into a more diverse band, were able to make a record different from the other albums, which is amazing for a band to do as "big" as they have gotten. Leviathan still remains my favorite album, but I like the bands that push boundaries, evolve, and try new things....as long as it works. Songs like "Oblivion, " "The Czar," and "Crack the Skye" for me have great melodies and guitar lines with keeping the Mastodon vibe intact even though this isn't a Remission. Unlike Metallica, I am sure that Mastodon could release an album as brutal and crushing as Remission. And I am guessing we will get another heavy record at some point.
