I think the problem with longer songs is that you really have to spend more time to get into it whereas shorter songs are easier to digest and they get to the point faster. People don't feel like they have enough time to listen to this. Which is why listening to songs rather than whole albums is more common..

but good music requires patience, and people don't understand that.

Shorter tracks are normally acknowledged as individual tracks, while longer tracks are almost always acknowledged as the parts of well-flowing albums.

Pretty much sums it up. I don't mind longer songs, just as long as they can carry their own. The
longer the song is, the more I expect from it. If a song is 22 minutes long, it needs to be better than any
other song I've ever listened too. Godspeed is good, and they can create beautiful melodies, but I feel like
they're too scattered, and wound out to fully appreciate them. In my opinion, if they're going to make their
songs so incredibly long, they need be more consistent with their rhythms, and make their already soft,
subtle (though beautiful) melodies more dramatic. The band Mono, which also creates long songs, does exactly
this. They create build up, and then explode, making every note they play dramatic, and bomb-like, something
I noticed Godspeed doesn't do. They also stayed consistent with every melody played. Everything was woven
together as to make a completed sound. Even Mono's split with World's End Girlfriend had songs that
etched right up to the 20 minute mark. But with them, every sound played appeared as if it was melting into
the next.

Except Storm does exactly this, and so do Static and Sleep for that matter.

I'll listen to those three songs again, but I don't recall ever hearing a proper build up to anything
explosive. Sure there were explosive pieces in the album, as well as subtle pieces, but they were so
scattered it was hard to discern what they were really aiming for. I will re-listen to this album one
last time, however, and I guess I'll give my thoughts on it again tomorrow.
