Just dropped by to say that pitchfork's review for this is brilliant. Also to say that this is the greatest rap album of all time and there will never be another as good. It's rap as an idea perfected. He gives the most beautiful and brilliant perspective on what it's like to be a brilliant African American in America ever, and that will never get old.

You know what I just typed this up without thinking, but it sums up my opinion on this album and nas, so I'll just make this my soundoff for the album

The album Illmatic gives the middle class white man the perfect vision of life in a project located in New York, without any of the discomfort and pain associated with living there. A modern day version of Roots if I've ever seen one.

I mean don't get me wrong, this album is superb. But 'white people' do throw this shit around like it's just a story or something. The stuff he discusses isn't really a game, and I don't think most individuals stop to think about it.
