"They out Opeth'd Opeth."

This is a pernicious falsehood

While they play a similar conglomeration of genres as opeth, they totes lack the progress-smoothly-through-five-distinct-movements-per minute aspect of them as well as the vibes and various intangibles that make opeth opeth

That disco metal romp with the gurgly keys at the start is pretty fun though

God you guys get on my nerves. "This sounds NOTHING like Opeth." Are you sure about that? I'm not talking about the vocalist sounding like Akerfeldt exactly in tone or pitch, or the riffs sounding exactly the same. I'm talking about the style in general you dipshit. This album is probably the closest thing to Opeth I've ever fucking heard.

ok firstly calm down bro, this is a discussion not an argument.

this is pretty different from Opeth. Opeth's is a fusion of death metal and progressive rock. their songs are 10 minutes on average and there are a ton of time signature changes and acoustic sections.

this is much more straightforward in terms of songwriting, as well as in terms of the riffs themselves. I could compare this more to Brave Murder Day-era Katatonia than I would to Opeth, though it is pretty unique and I couldn't really think of another band that sounds exactly like this.

Amorphis is influenced by progressive rock and death metal pretty heavily too... I can agree that it is more straightforward but it still sounds like them a lot.

I highly disagree with it sounding more like BMD than Opeth

while skyforger has some prog influences, I've always thought of eclipse and SL as heavy metal with some folk and death influences (haven't listened to any of their early releases in full)

majestic beast is the only song I've heard by them that brings opeth vibes, or at least the grand conjuration vibes. the riff and chord progression are actually almost verbatim and the synths and growls are also really similar

I certainly couldn't give two shits. I just made a comment and then sum1 said they sound "nothing" alike. I really don't give a fuck was kind of just shooting the shit. m/m/m/
