Mark O. is easily the coolest part of that band. IDK how the fuck he sounds better the older he gets but he's insane.

Mastodon were great on the gojira tour last year, maybe this was a one-off?

I've been down on LoG live for quite a while, even though most of the set still hits. It has felt like Mark / Willy / John are kinda....idk just going along with things. Randy and Art carry the show. Randy in particular, that dude is just a living legend and hasn't lost a step.

"I commented to my buddy who I was with that I suddenly felt too old to be at a metal show. "

this hits so hard. I saw cannibal corpse and gorguts last year and while I had a great time and it was awesome to see them, it's hard to really "get into it" so to speak. did a bit of moshing but just kinda got bored of it and wanted to just watch the bands lol

@MO, I sat through most of Mastodon's set lol. I didn't have it in me to stand and headbang after Blood and Thunder. I rocked out when LoG was up but ended up taking a breather during the instrumental interlude. They closed out with Walk With Me in Hell and Redneck which are still hype as fuck.

@Guy, Mark and John have always been sort of statues on stage. Willie will light up a little bit when Randy comes over but otherwise, you're right, they let Randy and Art do their thing. If you ever get a chance to watch the Making of Sacrament documentary, Willie mentions that Randy was meant for the stage. He's not a studio guy at all and feels most fulfilled when they're touring.

Yea I feel a bit too old for the mosh pits these days, although if I have a few drinks I'll usually jump in for a bit.

Also doesn't help when "hardcore dancers" are flailing around with kicks / haymakers and hitting people. Really not a fan of those dudes. One of the recent shows I was at, one of those idiots ended up starting a fight and security kicked his ass out, was really satisfying to see lol

One thing that has made concerts a lot more interesting for me lately though has been learning guitar. It just makes me appreciate seeing these guys nail a challenging solo / section way more than I used to.

I saw them play this whole album last night and they sounded great. Much better than mastodon. They also played walk with me in hell and redneck.

Saw these guys in LA last night, playing this album in full and Mastodon played Leviathan in full. Fucking badass, these guys were on fucking point.

And yeah LoG was the highlight but Mastodon were great as always too. Just more of a psychedelic metal band that a bone crushing kick you in the fucking teeth one like LoG. That intensity will always overshadow.

I would murder everyone you love to see Leviathan and Ashes live. I would do heinous, unspeakable things. Jk, I love you Lark

i was tempted to buy tix for this current tour but i passed. not a fan of mastodon’s live shows and i’d be stuck in a relatively stationary position the whole show. fuck that.

mastodon is boring enough live that i’d be cool just standing there because that’s all they do but not being able to mix it up down low when log plays would just be shitty.

prob laid to rest for me even if it's the popular pick. palaces through wrath were huge albums for me growing up. haven't listened in forever, should probably remedy that.

Just rediscovered Another Nail for Your Coffin which was a bonus track on the vinyl version (I think?) I forgot how fucking good it is especially with the guitar break halfway through. One of the better riffs/solos from the band. It should have been the album closer in all honesty.

Amazing how good these bros still sound live. Omertà and Blood of the Scribe were my definite highlights of the album playthrough

Adler's drumming on The Faded Line has been a twenty-year boner. His work on this album is just fucking exquisite. And honestly the intro to that song is one of the three or four best things in their discog imo (to include desolation main riff, Set to Fail chorus and 11th hour in totality).

I think I said it elsewhere, but when I think of how modern metal sounds, I immediately think of this album. It has become clear that my ears are shit and I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about in this space, but this is easily my favorite metal production ever. Everything just sounds fucking perfect.
