I've been told by many (including trav himself) that i would be infinitely more inclined to liking their older material so i do plan on checking out LS, SD, and Signify eventually.
You should listen to Up the Downstair and The Sky Moves Sideways first. They're a lot more psychedelic than the ones you mentioned and I think you'd prefer them to any of their post-Stupid Dream material.

I'd give it a few more listens before laying judgement DPM. It takes awhile to sink in and grab a hold of you. That's if you're into this sort of thing, but really I think this is something most people can/should enjoy.
