BWP was their breakthrough album and where the SW influence became more apparent, so to me it signals the start of the mid-era. There weren't really any changes in the way Opeth went about things from MAYH to Still Life, unlike Still Life to BWP.

Still Life has a much 'cleaner' sound than MAYH though, regarding songwriting it definitely made a step in the direction BWP would take as well. Very much a transition album as I see it.

Agreed dom, also I see watershed and still life as the bridges of the eras, exhibiting just as much from one as the other and are more the transition albums than belonging to one clearly defined era like the rest

if i could 4.25 any album this would be it. first three songs and harlequin forest rule unbelievably hard but the other tracks have a few dull moments

I find Hours of Wealth and Grand Conjuration the weakest on this album. It's all pretty solid but I'd say the one thing that GR lacks in comparison to the other metal albums is any form of intensity. Absolutely none or little here

You kidding me? half of Watershed is better than The Grand Conjuration. It's just quite a bland song which lacks any momentum for me
