It was definitely their weakest effort, still relatively enjoyable though.

Gore kinda 4 (or 3.5)
Bpleb, I love DE and Koi for what they are, awesome 4.5s. Both safe albums relying on the contrast on the heavy hooking riffs and the soft parts. Deftones done right.
This one feels to me more (re)inventive and definitely feels a turning point for the band. Flatearthings appart feels to me more mature.

I really enjoy Gore actually. I think it has a lot more character than S/T. I don't think it's their best and I can agree that the production is a little muddy but I love how you have your classic DT songs like "Phantom Bride" but then some weird shit like "Pitture Infamante" or "Acid Hologram"

Acid Hologram is Gore's primary redeeming factor. That song is brilliant.

Gore has really good solo songs but for some reason it falls way flat when you listen start to finish. I would happily listen to Acid Hologram, Phantom Limb, MIRL, Rubicon off the top of my head but it doesn’t have that great joined up vibe that every other Deftones album does imo

Gore is better than this imo

“Gore has really good solo songs but for some reason it falls way flat when you listen start to finish.”
Because Pittura Infamante and Xenon are both snoozers and they stuck them together right in the middle.
Gore would be much better if they left those on the cutting room floor.

Self titled is actually GOAT (2)
Self titled was my favorite Deftones for years, but I finally came to the realization that WP is their magnum opus — that album just has this consistently haunting feel to it that is utterly captivating. S/t is def my 2nd fav though, love the brutal and dark tone on it.

dark throne?
lol I agree on WP, though my close 2nd and sometimes first is ATF...S/t is awesome, it just looses some steam on the last few songs I guess. On other hand...m/ Bloody Cape m/...idk man hehe close to perfect album as well.

I'm just really happy they're still releasing great albums at this point. This isn't just "good for an alt metal album", it's good full stop.
