Haha, you mean the ''solo'' part?
I've considered reading those many times but never did it. I think I finally should give them a go, but I'm not yet halfway in Don Quixote and I only read one book at a time so I can focus. Plus it keeps me from stopping halfway.

Hmmm B probably has the most variety available for discussion
On that note, one of my favourites was Robert Swindells ‘Brother In The Land’, although I doubt it rings any bells
Essentially it’s a post apocalyptic novel set in a sleepy English town after nuclear fallout, the main character witnesses the gradual decrease of societal boundaries in favour of more brute force approaches in staying alive after the radiation poisons everything. It’s decent, I loved it when I was a kid (although not sure what that says about me haha)

Oh that sounds great! Reminds me a little of Tomorrow When The War Began, in which a group of Australian friend (all teenagers) go camping in the wild and when they come back they find that their whole country has been invaded by an unspecified country. They are the only ones who are still free and go into hiding and make it as difficult as possible for their occupiers.

Yeah Robert Swindells has a lot of really great young adult stuff - it’s a bit tame now looking back as an older reader, but he’s had a lot of great story ideas; Stone Cold is written from the point of view of someone homeless who notices that other homeless are slowly being picked off one by one.
Another story (Hydra) is set in a small English village where two kids notice a secret military(?) operation is underway and give in to curiosity to find out what’s happening. They’re simple ideas but well written.
That sounds like it would be a lot of fun to read! I’ve added it to the long list, I’d definitely enjoy that

“F - a nice poop“
I have so many responses yet none feel good enough

Yeah it's an amazing story, by John Marsden. Don't watch the movie though, it sucks.
Nice, I think I'll check one of those from Swindell! Which one would be best to go for first?
Another one which I really liked was the Silvering series, about bats and their adventures. Lovely books, very adventurous, a real page turner for 12y olds.

Ooooooh yeah that happens for sure.

I’d say start with Brother In The Land - like I say they’re young adult so might be a bit tame, but they still make for good reading
“Silvering series”
Yeah that sounds like a good little read, might buy for my younger brother actually

Another young adult I read the shit out of when I was a kid was The Legendeer Trilogy by Alan Gibbons. It’s about a VR game series that ends up being a little too realistic and has the potential to kill people while playing - a super generic sci fi idea but a lot of fun to read, the second of the series is all about vampires and for a younger me that shit was gold.
Tbh I’m kinda amazed it never got adapted into a film or tv series, it’s an easy concept to translate to film and the stories are good enough to hold their own.

John Christopher was some proper young adult dystopia. Especially The Empty World.
|
| |
That one looks good too Egarran.
Love young adult novels as a genre. Many of these books sound like books you just have unpretentious fun with, which is missing sometimes in literary fiction for adults. Just a great story to get lost in and that you want to keep reading.

Trifo you should love John Wyndham's cozy apocalypse. E.g. The Triffids, The Cuckoos and the short stories.

The Triffids is amazing.
Speaking of John Christopher, The Tripods was a brilliant read. The series is okay too.
|
| |
Oh yeah I loved Triffids, that's right up my alley and exactly that surviving-a-major-disaster-with-a-small-group-of-people kind of story that I love.
