Its not that I dont like Kendrick. As I said, GKMC is a near 5. Its fucking awesome. I'll add Wesley's Theory as a not-terrible song. U is probably the worst song I've ever heard.

King Kunta, Wesley's Theory, Institutionalized, These Walls, Alright, Momma, How Much a Dollar Cost and The Blacker the Berry are all 5/5 tracks and the weakest track on here would still be a 3/5. All in all I can't name many albums at all that are this consistent. Each one of those tracks would be the highlight on 95% of hip hop albums

Institutionalized is almost unlistenable for me, as is For Free, U, etc. These Walls and Dollar Cost are both genuinely great songs.

YOu really count For Free as a song? It's more like a skit/interlude if anything

I don't know what I would call it, aside from complete and utter shit.

It's still a fucking skit. Like who cares lmao

Its the 2nd track, so its harder to avoid lol. I remember when this was dropped and every critic was losing their minds over it. The first time I heard it, I thought it was a 1.5, at best. I tried it about 15 times to see what I was missing, because I loved GKMC so much. I guess it comes down to personal taste. Listening to this is like a chore to me, aside from 3 songs.

You seem to like Liquid Swords and 36 chambers. At least here you can skip the 2 skits. Those two albums on the other hand I can barely listen ot anymore because you have to get through like 2 minutes of movie samples on each track before the song starts lmao

Fair enough. As time goes on I like Liquid Swords less and less. 36 Chambers will forever be a classic.

If someone just wants bangers and easily digestible generic rap bops, then sure I can understand them actively hating on this. There are so many genres smoothly blended into this, with good writing, good lyrics, and it's pretty emotionally raw. I understand someone not having the attention span to stick with this, especially those who exclusively blast Backseat Freestyle in their cars, but there's still a ton to appreciate here no matter what brand of rap you prefer

The older I get, the more I like simple stuff I guess. I was a kid in the heydey of 90s Hip Hop, I think that also spoiled me. Know whats a great Kendrick song? Goddamn All the Stars. Give me more of that.

I find this album pretty easily digestible

It also might have something to do with the fact I have always absolutely detested Jazz.

damn you like All The Stars? That song sounds every other generic pop song on the radio. It's trash

I think we found our difference. I don't listen to the radio at all anymore, so couldn't tell you about that. I just like something with a hook. Don't bore us, get to the chorus, so to speak.

So after years contemplating why you don't like an album that is heavily jazz influenced you finally came to the conclusion that it might be beacause of the fact that you hate jazz. Well congratulations my guy, I think you're on to something here.

I will say I like the Pac interview at the end, since he is easily GOAT.

^ I guess it did take me awhile to just boil it down to that. I love G Funk to death, and funk as a genre, because it almost always has a groove. A hook.

Ill just boil it down to this. M.A.A.D. City is one of the greatest hip hop songs ever. Nothing on here sounds like that, therefore I hate it. Tongue in cheek, but its pretty much true.

culturally speaking Pac might be the goat but musically he's not for me. Same with Kurt Cobain in terms of 90s rock.
