Same here. I like Countdown, but this is definitely better.

Countdown was a way bigger release at the time and I'd say 'Symphony', 'Sweating Bullets' and 'Skin o' My Teeth' are all more iconic Megadeth tracks (not saying necessarily better...) than any on this one.

'À tout le monde' was a hit but...it's still a metal band releasing a ballad when you get down to it. I like 'Train of Consequences' but again it doesn't have that same feel as the ones mentioned above.

Returning to this album and it is a shade more consistent overall but the 'heavyweight' factor of 'Countdown' wins over it.

Only songs I still listen to from Countdown are Architecture of Aggression and Foreclosure of a Dream. This still gets spins from front to back. Much more cohesive tbh.

'Countdown' is still a pretty cohesive album, I wouldn't say there are any massive sore thumbs on there and I have a lot of fondness for every track on it (not that I rate them all equally, far from it).

Arriving soon after Metallica's black album it was catapulted into being a massive release, at the time definitely in my five most played albums of that year.

By '94 there was a lot more competition in rock and metal, it was maybe in my top 25 most listened to that year so still great but it felt like a much more muted reaction to it. That experience does colour my opinion of both albums a bit I guess, as unfair as that may seem.

i agree with that doof, the highs on countdown are some of their best post rust but this is way more consistent. no symphony of destruction or ashes in your mouth on this but makes up for it in how solid each track is. although addicted to chaos is probably a top 10 megadeth song for me.

Disagreed hard on the countdown takes. Great album and it’s their commercial success agreed. In no way are the highs on it equal to Rust or even this to that matter. Great album front to back but not a single jaw dropping moment on it for me.

Yeah back in my discog run I liked this way more than Countdown. Doesn't reach the highs of Countdown but Countdown has some songs that are really obnoxious.

Might be my fav Megadeth record, nice to see see some love for it around here. This one has Dave‘s best vocal performance by far, production is pristine, everything sounds organic and natural. They were still on top of their game back then, will never get stale for me.
