That whole album feels like it’s primed for some MMA guy to walk out to, except it’s good music and not whatever bullshit they probably normally play.

No Heroes is as mid as it gets. Was shocked to see the (at the time) staff review for it give it a 4.5, and then 3 years later, the same reviewer gave AtF a 2.5. Completely backwards.

That's horrible consistency and ATF is among my fave Converge, but I love No Heroes. This album is like a spiritual successor to it

No Heroes is great, but its my least fav Converge tbh.

I'd say Bloodmoon or Dusk for me

bloodmoon, dusk and this are worse for me. no heroes has some real bangers. t/t, plagues and grim heart/black rose is an epic 3 song streak. grim heart is one of my favorites of theirs period.

Not into the other two, but Grim Heart is definitely an S tier Converge track.

I think the thing I like most about No Heroes outside of that track is the album art. I've always loved the cover and I wish the album resonated with me for that reason lol

Doom in Bloom is dropping tomorrow, or today if you have a VPN. Sounds solid but I was hoping the outro would have a little more excitement to it.

Dusk is weakest converge probably yeah. Has some bangers but some of the songs feel like retreads of other converge songs and the pacing particularly on the second half grinds to an absolute halt. Also no Eve is WILD, it absolutely crushes any of the slow songs on it

Tbh I don’t think Eve fits anywhere on the album, not just sonically but thematically. It’s one of their best songs ever but the lyrics are kinda puzzling since Jacob seems to be happily married… maybe he wrote them at a different stage in his life. You can try to interpret it as the ending of a platonic relationship but to me it always felt like a “breakup” song.
But even if you ignore all of that, I still don’t really think it fits anywhere. I’ve tried swapping the title track out for it and also just throwing it on the end and having it be a closer but it still just doesn’t really feel right.
Tbh I like it as its own standalone thing. That 7” had me so hyped for Dusk back then. I can’t believe it’s been almost a decade man. But I also think I like that record more than most. The only real issue I have with it is that the t/t is a little too long and it just kills the album’s momentum.
A Single Tear
Eye of the Quarrel
Under Duress
Arkhipov Calm
I Can Tell You About Pain
it’s just such a blistering start to the album and it all grinds to a halt with this long-ass-dreary-as-fuck post metal track. I dunno how exactly I’d sequence it but maybe have Thousands of Miles Between Us there and have t/t closer to the end of the album, if not the very last song?
I dunno. It’s my only real issue with it. I like every song there and I think some of their best songs land on it.

Easy, cut Thousands of Miles Between Us and TDIU and replace them with Eve. I have Eve placed at the end of the tracklist on my ipod so I'm pretty used to hearing it that way now after almost ten years. I always thought closing out on Reptilian was kind of weak.
Also Eve doesn't strike me as being about a relationship or breakup, but a song about resilience and purpose.

Yeah only thing is with that is how Cannibals / Thousands of Miles Between Us / Reptilian all flow into each other. It’s gotta sound kinda awkward if you just cut out that middle track
And I actually really love Thousands of Miles Between Us, it makes me wish Jacob would actually try to sing a little more often. He sounds great in the last minute and a half or so when he actually puts his voice out there instead of doing that spoken word shit he normally does.
At the end of the day I think they realize how much people love that track, seeing it live is one of the most memorable performances of any any band I’ve ever seen play… which has gotta be in the thousands at this point. And the lineup for that tour was just batshit insane. Full of Hell - Uniform - Thou (joined by Kristin Hayter for a couple of songs) - Converge. Every band has a couple of moments where someone from a different band would play with them. I remember them playing Empty on the Inside and all the drummers came up and did almost this marching band thing which was a lot of fun. The Full of Hell guitarist also joined for Axe to Fall and had some killer soloing.
For sure one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to.
