no deftone without tonal musicality, creativity and experimentation. I enjoy strong and meaningful lyrics, but the music itself can override bad or average lyrics. I also value transitional flow between songs and a unique and creative theme that can be derived from the album as a whole.

gotta bump my rating for this one. been one of the few releases this year that's pulled me back in consistently



after listening to a lot more dissodeath type shit I've noticed that a lot of bands are ineffective at writing songs that are distinct and complete, rather than a bunch of cool ideas tacked onto each other. listening to this more has revealed many hidden, mangled, and subtle motifs within each song when it sounded so jumbled and random at first. also production is top tier
