"I remember first discovering this band (the song "stabwound" in particular) because someone uploaded an mp3 claiming it was by Death. so i downloaded it. i was like 13 but immediately recognized it sounded nothing like Death, but whoever it was, it was awesome."
For me it was Project Playlist (now just known as Playlist). Back then, you could search any keywords into the search engine and stream the songs/bands that came up on there. I remember the entire Epitaph album being on there, and that's how I first discovered Necrophagist. But that site and Musicmatch Jukebox were basically my two gateways into most of the metal music I found in my formative years... Death, Atheist, Cynic, The Black Dahlia Murder, Necrophagist, Arch Enemy, Carcass... the list goes on
