what does him being a "cishet white male" have to do with the quality of the movie

You missed the joke - the metaphor: a straight dude directing a movie about drag

In other words, he was severely out of his element

Halsey has now weighed in on the Grammy controversy

Such grave injustices the rich elite face.

What did she say, also was she nominated? I cannot remember this, or anything else about her

She basically said if you scratch their backs they'll scratch yours - shocker

She then complained about how they make millions in the same industry she makes millions in

And then she said she'd probably be blacklisted from the Grammys for saying so

It's all very tragic

it's all out of touch complaining to us proles but I guess it makes sense within their industry. they only have 1 career etc. not getting some meaningless award is a nice problem to have I guess

I liked Joker, but The King Of Comedy is even better

"movie made me cringe"

isn't that kind of the point? kinda figured it was expected for the audience to be doing a lot of cringing during that movie.

Nicolas Cage in Deadfall is a better Joker origin story than Joker. The more time that passes, the worse Joker looks. I still think it's a good movie, the climatic scene on the Murray Show is brilliant, though it's not the "masterpiece" that all of these people online have been claiming; these people who call Joker a "masterpiece" must not watch many worthwhile movies. I also love that David Fincher called it out, since the movie clearly takes a lot of cues from Fight Club.

tbh i found even the murray show scene pretty anti-climactic thanks to the expectations set by all the controversy

movie wasn't even that fucking edgy, bruh literally killed like 5 people total, with the reactions and political kneejerking going on around it you'd think he shot up a fucking school with a semi automatic or something

Yeah. I was expecting something much harsher. When I saw it in theaters, I was expecting it to (tonally) be akin to something like Animal Kingdom; a brilliant Australian crime/drama that has one of the most disturbing sequences I've ever seen in a film.

Yeah. It's one of the best films I've ever seen. Really wish that Joker had even just a touch of that films tension. All the controversy surrounding Joker made it seem like it was gonna be a divisive, yet thoroughly memorable classic. Another film that was way better than Joker is Lars Von Tier's The House That Jack Built. It is a deeply disturbing and hugely controversial film, but it lingers with you long after seeing it and I think it gets better the more you let it linger (may even be my favorite Tier movie, definitely Matt Dillon's finest performance).

hilarious, one of my first thoughts about Joker was that I wished it was more like The House That Jack Built

Dillon should be next Joker lmao
