art projecting trauma isn't the easiest to appreciate or absorb cuz of how heavy it can get

Anna von Hausswolf rules. Just throwing it out there.

I can't give this a 1/5 in good consciousness, the emotional weight attached to the themes explored gives me pause for thought. I feel like the lowest rating is overly dismissive, despite how much I really do not actually like listening to this. The uncomfortable nature of the album is a perversely positive aspect of the record.

this entire thread has been both difficult to stomach & strangely uplifting so that’s apt & if i were a rating man i’d slap a 3.5 on this one

I'm not really sure why I could rate DG's Plague Mass as a 5 and this as average. Maybe I only have the capacity to appreciate one album in this style.

that sucks

i mentioned it earlier but i found some similarities sonically between this & “spiritual songs for lovers to sing” by lost under heaven so maybe anyone interested who enjoyed this can check that record & see if that’s an accurate comparison but it’s been a while & perhaps that’s even a stretch

like a mish-mash somewhere in between that record & giles corey is comparable to a degree musically

You know on Sputnik a 1.5 and 1 are basically the same thing. As are a 3.0 and 2.5 now that I think about it

3 = "I didn't really like this but it's rated highly and/or generally well received by the sputnik community and I don't feel like catching shit in the comments or explaining my low rating."

3.5 is like someone here rec’ed it to you & you’re like yeah i heard it so don’t ask me again
|
| |
or it just means that you listened to it & thought it was great
|
| |
3 is a very "don't like but respect this" rating (or "this is shit but I kinda enjoy it")

I can also get it you went into this not knowing anything about her and not knowing shes a girl making music with an organ/piano/keyboard and bunch of samples and noise and expecting something entirely different how it might fall flatter. Thats why, as said before, i think her story is vital to the music as it stands now. Her obsession with religious art and paintings too. 'All bitches die' was much harsher sonically and more down my street but that wasn't immediate also. Honestly this gets better for me every time i here it and I guess when you listen once decide its shit and dump a 1.5 on it thats not gonna happen. Which I get, i do the same.
