At least we know it's a legitimately great record and we aren't just delusional fanboys haha

Okay 2, 459 + Wendy & Betsy are mwY's greatest back-to-back tracks for the sheer emotional spectrum displayed. Goddamn I love this band

Anybody want to illuminate for me why this CD isn’t available on Amazon? Never listened to these guys before and want to check it out.
I see brother sister is available though. Get both maybe?

Brother Sister definitely worth getting though? Would that be a good introduction?

They released it on bandcamp early this past weekend, and some people had promo copies for like a month lol.
Brother, Sister is a phenomenal introduction, Pale Horses might be a better introduction if you’re looking to dive into this beast right after.

Pale Horses is underrated af. My personal favorite mwY track is on it: “Blue Hen”

alright. time for a bad opinion. after listening to this a fair amount of times since release, it's...around a 3.5 for me.
Let's get the good out of the way: loved the singles to death, Wendy & Betsy is outstanding despite ending so abruptly, and this version of Winter Solstice is one of the nicest things I've heard all year.
I don't mind the middle being softer, I mind some parts feeling like they should have had more of Aaron's usual style. The end of Tortoises (although still really great), the 2nd verse and maybe the chorus in Flee Thou Matadors, and the latter half of New Wine, New Skins are parts that feel like they were almost meant for that. That aside, I do still really enjoy the former two. New Wine, New Skins is a bit boring.
Anyway, then there are times when the album gets ugly and a bit too hard to comprehend. Michael is the best example of this. I want to love this, I really do but after "kaleidoscopic highway" I can't follow what's happening. It's cool, don't get me wrong and I can see why everyone loves it, it's just not working for me.
This is a dense album and after getting a bit more familiar with their discography, it's certainly the most unique thing they've done. Honestly, it barely resembles any of those. The harsher parts are comparable to A -> B Life while the choruses on the middle tracks are more akin to Ten Stories, but that's really all I've got, so bravo to them for doing something completely different this late in their career. My complaints aside, I do think this album is deserving of the incredibly high praise. I'm going to keep listening to this in hopes that I start feeling the same way because this is still one of the most interesting things I've ever heard, but I personally prefer what they were doing with albums like Pale Horses and Ten Stories

Hope it clicks for you because it’s floored me since first listen. Yeah it’s gotten better and better but I really wish I could go back to the first time I heard it. My brain shat. I expected greatness but damn this album has kinda taken over my life.

I can totally respect that opinion Grey because it's a slightly more critical take than how I felt about ~1 week in. It took me some time to get past the fact that the whole album didn't follow in the style of 9:27, Julia, Hydra, W&B, Michael, etc. The juxtaposition of styles felt lazy to me at first and all I kept thinking was "what if?" I know those aren't the same complaints you outlined but I guess my point is that this is a very layered album. You might not change your opinion at all and that's fine, but I'd be surprised if you didn't come around to Michael a bit more - which is so dense it borders on indigestible - once that track clicked with me, the rest just fell into line. If you haven't listened to it with the lyrics in front of you yet I'd try that as well. But yeah, anyway, it's cool you like this even if you aren't swooning and screaming like the lot of us fanboys.

I still don’t understand Michael but from a sonic standpoint it’s wonderful. But I’d be lying if I said I had any clue what it means lol

I'll do a lyrical deep dive one of these days.
I'm not sure what all of it means yet either but the "your little brother can't paddle anymore" line still makes me want to well up after learning that it is him talking to his older brother, about himself. Aaron apparently went through some identity crisis and it's basically an excerpt from a phone call between the two where he's telling him he's barely hanging on.
Also, his brother's name? Michael Weiss. He's the band's guitarist.

Definitely a respectable opinion, Grey. A 3.5 is still great in my book! You picked up some of the Ten Stories simiarities I did.
