Perfect Places is sooooo out of place on this LP, the emotional arc is 100 % done on Liability Pt.2.
"average pop.. albums like these get randomly hailed as some sort of saving moment once in a while.. smart marketing.. didn't expect this site to drink the shit-laced Kool Aid so hard though.."
I have not been in contact with any marketing for this album except maybe one banner on spotify.

I could just conclude that this is the inevitable edgey backlash to anything with a modicum hype, but then I would commit the same idiotic fallacy as butcherboy so.....

Liability Reprise would be a terrible closer imo. It works perfect as a late interlude though.

Yeah wtf marketing? I actively surround myself with all things Lorde and never heard a word about the album outside of her Facebook page.
And calling this a saving moment average pop record is unfathomable to me. I listen to most major pop and you can feel a very rare artistry in this.

"The album is a bit too self-conscious about how it wants to be perceived, without really being that clever. Green Light and Supercut are good, but her style of whispering-her-lyrics in rhythm ends up making most songs sound the same."
I can't comment on how Lorde wanted this to be perceived, because I'm not her, but this is way more diverse than her debut. And I agree with the comment above when I say that as a mainstream pop fan, there's few artists out there that could write a song like "The Louvre" or "Hard Feelings/Loveless" and have it sound as good. This doesn't have to be a classic/perfect 5 for all, but it's very difficult to deny the creative prowess of the album or the album's cohesive themes that work ideally with the atmosphere concocted/her vocals.

"I always thought Björk would be right down Sowing's alley. Huh. "
until you remember that Bjork's actually decent, so that's why she's not

Goddamn I love how bombastic Perfect Places is, anything else as the album closer would've been underwhelming

Yeah, bumping my rating on this. A sit-down listen really solidified the whole production and cohesive feel of the album for me.

Thanks for reminding me I need to listen to this again. Got to make sure it holds up after a few weeks of not listening and that I didn't just get sucked into the hype.
Edit: nope still amazing. Actually, it's gotten better imo

The way the melody works with the chord progression in the verses of Perfect Places is orgasmic.

I laugh to myself everytime I hear "They'll hang us in the Louvre / Down the back, but who cares, still the Lourve"
There's just something so silly and sweet about the line that I really love.
