This might be on par with OTIP, which I'm so stoked about because Rented World was a bit disappointing

I'd argue Rented World is much more radio rock than this. This album is like a good blend of OtIP and that album

nah i thought other than maybe "asshole" that rented world wasnt particularly "radio rock" although it certainly was moreso than past menzingers albums. i think the songwriting though sentimental, melodic, relatively simplistic and often accessible still had plenty of nuance and musicality to it as well as a fairly un-radio level of aggression to it like on "the talk" and "my friend kyle".
after the party however is a lotta just straight rockin; all the above things that made rented world vaguely radio friendly + bouncy rhythms, super hooky songs (almost ridiculously hooky, srsly) and is rarely "aggressive" though persistently "driving". theres totally songs that do some pretty blatantly un-radio things on after the party like "tellin lies" and "the bars" with their tempo changes but for the most part this is almost the kinda shit you'd expect from a major label.
and yea theres a bit more of OTIP on here than the last album in terms of the songwriting style but it definitely feels like theres nowhere near the amount of edge that was on OTIP. i mean like the real anger and punk energy behind OTIP; after the party is still punk but it feels dulled in that respect for sure. that said i dont mean that like "the menzingers lost what made them great blah blah blah" or "menzingers arent exciting anymore because i think the songs on ATP are killer and its an excellent album regardless but its definitely very very different to OTIP.

I only like Menzingers for their lyrics and wonderful pop hooks. I never think that had very subversive songwriting like they were anything less than a really solid pop punk band. They just know how to write really cohesive and musically engaging music with just delightfully relatable and human lyrics about the human experience and our whiteboi relationships.

i'd probably somewhere in the bottom half of this album. charlie's army, house on fire, thick as thieves and the tt are my faves.

Serious AOTY contender for me. I know it's early, but it's gonna be hard to top this. Tellin Lies is a hell of an opener.
