It would have been fine if they stopped at Ire Works.

At least they finally have the self awareness to call it quits. A lot of bands that should, refuse to. Like Opeth.

Ire Works is their most straightforward album from what I'm reading? No wonder it's their lowest rated album here, fans want the jank
|

so is this good or...
|

i think the reason Ire Works worked is because its clear Gil had a lot of liberty with it and it seems like everyone was kind of like "Oh, Pennie is gone, lets not try to do what we did with him without him, lets move on" so they made a really innovative album (in the context of their career) and tried moving forward but then all the retarded DEP fans were like "WUT IS THIS M8 FUK U THERE IS A PAP SONG AND A TECH-NO SONG" and then the band was like "oh fuck my tits and shit on my ballsack i guess we aren't allowed to do anything new I'm scared" so they just started transitioning back into emulating their days long past which just resulted in a shitty watered down version of themselves at the peak of their career.

I give the first half of this album up to surrogate a 3-3.5 and the rest a 2
Odd considering "Honeysuckle" is the best thing on this one.

Nah wwf, Option Paralysis is probably the simplest. Discount my memory of One of us is the Killer though, because it sucks.

Gil didn't do the programming on Ire Works, Ben did. Pennie did it before Ben took it over on that record.

i wouldnt say its their most straightforward but it definitely has all the best examples of their most mature songwriting as well as their best moments of integrated experimentality

"Gil didn't do the programming on Ire Works, Ben did."
i was talking about the drums
|
| |
From what I'm reading, Gil just played on the record and had next to no writing input.
|
| |
No I know i just mean they didn't make him play DEP drums if you know what i mean
his drumming on Ire Works is the least signature DEP bombast of any of their albums imo
|
| |
like some of it is just straight up pop punk drumming
|
| |
He's way sloppier than Pennie, if that's what you mean. It works with the more "party" nature of some of the tracks.

Yeah comparing Ire drums to Miss Machine drums is just a total change-up.
|
| |
i just mean he had the liberty to be himself as a drummer and it really helped further the unique and more mature song structures of the album IMO IMO IMO
|
| |
It turned out that way but I don't know if it was intentional. He hit the road shortly after.
|
| |
probs because fans didnt like it cuz it was too good

How are Option Paralysis and One of Us is the Killer "shitty watered down versions" of Dillinger Escape Plan?
