They are compared to others. The sound on later albums is much clearer

Actually TfE, S&A and Counterparts have a very well done remaster. And the original masters are pretty bad

'the original masters are pretty bad'

i haven't heard the remasters, but you sound ridiculous saying that the original masters sound pretty bad on those 3 albums, considering thats all we had at one time......especially Counterparts, which has been considered gold by so many from a production standpoint.....also, considering the travesties of presto, roll the bones, and vapor trails, that is just crazy talk

so in an essence, many original Rush albums sound like shit, right? if anything, i will give you S&A because it's mixed a little too high, but not to the point where it ruins the album, still a good output

@Titan: Original Presto and Roll the Bones sound fine to me.

"so in an essence, many original Rush albums sound like shit, right?"

I never said that, the first presses of '70s and '80s Rush are gold.

Well, give those remasters a try. Trust me: you're not going to want to come back.

i would love some sort of boxed set of all of their superior reissues, masters, etc...

and i agree with you on presto and roll the bones, they sound fantastic on a good system.....i was more or less expressing the popular opinion even though i haven't had a problem with them, regardless of their flaws

i mean they are definitely good sounding records but the lack of bottom end is undeniable

it was of the time i spose but even then presto just sounds pathetic
