its pretty but feels so half-baked, like Thom yawned a few lyrics over some piano and then handed it over to Johnny to gift wrap with strings

Yeah but the warped feel to it is pretty sweet

obviously from my rating I'm a big fan of this album's ethereal approach, I dig the delicate song structures supplemented with lush orchestration and all

but Glass Eyes is weak from a songwriting perspective and the least substantial thing here

no its not. it's got the most realized arrangement on the album objectively. whether or not you like thoms vocals on the track

this album has alot of issues and zeroing in on glass eyes here is funny

From a songwriting perspective (by which I mean lyrics, which may not be what others mean by that term), Glass Eyes is one of the best here. It presents a great, emotional, and thoughtful scene.

I wasn't talking lyrics, I was talking arrangement and instrumentation

I used to like it more, but my last 2 listens of it helped it grow off of me a lot...

The Bends is amazing in theory and in practice.

the bends is alright. no point of really listening beyond fake plastic trees and street spirit

When I think back at it, The Bends is a bit overrated but then again, it's been a good 2 years since I've heard it fully.

I heard The Bends for the first time in a long time just the other day. It's a very solid rock record, but I find most of the albums they did afterwards to be more interesting. This one is top 5 'Head for me.

I think I prefer The Bends to the studio version of The King of Limbs, and maybe Amnesiac, but that changes for me. The Live from the Basement version of TKOL however is probably just as good as this. The two classics and In Rainbows will always be best for me tho.
