"Considering they recycle song ideas/riffs from Obscura"
Where? The songs on this are way more prog, as opposed to Obscura which was quite a bit more riff-based and cyclical in its songwriting despite the zanier aesthetic.

"tone down their experimentation"
Cause they figured out what worked and what didn't, eg. weird-for-the-sake-of-weird chromatic tapping solos in the Obscura t/t. More experimentation =/= better

"fail to further progress their sound"
lol

Gorguts have always refused to become stagnant, they’ve always switched things up.

Colored Sands embraced the prog and doesn’t sound a thing like this.

"Yeah, they really sold out with this, went totally commercial" Never implied this but ok.

@Jacquibim
"The songs on this are way more prog" given many people have their own usage of the word prog, you need to elaborate.

If there is anything different in the sound here (and I am sure there isnt) its nothing compared to the jump from 'The Erosion of Sanity' to 'Obscura'.

"Colored Sands embraced the prog and doesn’t sound a thing like this"
Yeah you are right, it sounds more like Ulcerate

"you need to elaborate"

Well I alluded to what I meant in the rest of the sentence. Most songs on this have fewer core ideas than on Obscura but there are more variations of them. There are also extended runtimes that are often broken up with an emphasis on harsh/mellow dynamics. Most songs on Obscura (with some exceptions like Nostalgia and Clouded) follow a fairly standard rock song format despite the presentation, which isn't necessarily a criticism, but I 100% disagree that this "recycles song ideas" from Obscura.

It's impossible for Luc to create anything less than stellar music.

One of very few albums for me where there's not a single 'meh' moment to be found.

I can't get anything beyond a mild enjoyment out of this one, it's strange. I've tried many many times now. Obscura, TEOS & Colored Sands are some of the best DM albums in existence, but this just doesn't tickle me in quite the same way. Disappointing.

Yeah, it's a lot more basic and less textured than everything else these guys have ever put out.
