This album is about 50% awesome, 25% meh, and 25% terrible. The problem is more than half the awesome bits have been completely done before.
Reapers is great but its Muse trying to be Van Halen then completely ripping the end of Freedom by Rage Against The Machine
Handler is the best track by far.

I still haven't heard this, or anything after 'The Resistance' (which flat out sucked), vaguely curious though. I remember hearing a decent Muse track on the radio once (which I'd not heard before), thinking it might've been 'Reapers' come to think of it, so at least this album has that track.

It's like 3.3 Muse, it's definitely not Absolution Muse
It's a step back in the right direction tho after 2nd Law, there's a lot of fun guitar in this

I was practically predisposed to not liking it simply because I bought it out of blind loyalty & got nothing like what I expected. On reflection it's just not that great a record anyway but that initial let-down was probably the biggest I've ever experienced (as they were my favourite band at the time).
It had a few potentially decent tracks ruined by awful pop-friendly production, the riffs were so muffled & weak. I think that was my biggest gripe although the song-writing wasn't exactly stellar Muse anyway, toned down & uninteresting for the most part. It's when the 'Muse-for-the-masses' era really took off I guess (although it started when they released 'Starlight' *shudders*).

@Betray - you want 'Origin of Symmetry' if you haven't heard it, more guitar orientated & 'prog-ier' than 'Absolution' or 'Black Holes' but definitely better overall than the latter (at worst).

Origin of Symmetry has Hyper Music on it, which is pretty much the catchiest bass riff they've ever made
|

word. I'll check origins instead. absolution rules really hard

Origin is their second best for sure, it's a lot more experimental than anything else they made

Hysteria is fun but I dig Hyper Music more, both as a song and for the bass riff. Both rule pretty hard tho
