The first time I heard Strangest Thing, I had an eargasm.
The second time, I bawled my eyes out.
Yep, this album is going to be my AOTY.

Its solid, I got through it once but it was pretty much background noise as I was working.

I might just be caught up in hype right now but for now I think it's nearly as good as this, even though it's a bit more laid back and less dynamic. Definitely a really immersive experience, more so than any of their other works.

It's great for sure, but not quite as colorful or impressive as this. The sound is also getting repetitive, and a follow-up would really need to evolve in some way. New one is a winner though, 8/10 rating from me, except that Thinking of a Place launches it to more like 8.5. One of the best songs of the year no doubt.

This band is in a place where they have pretty much perfected their sound to as great a degree as any band can, I guess it'd be nice if they did something different but if the quality remains high I don't really care whether they change it up or not. I'm also still pretty new to them for what it's worth so the sound hasn't had much time to wear off of me so perhaps I'll feel different in a year or two. The album does have a bit less diversity than this though so I wouldn't be surprised if some people find that a drawback.
As it is though, Thinking of a Place is their best song yet and Holding On and Strangest Thing are at least as good as anything here.

I liked Slave Ambient more than Lost in the Dream

Album Rating: 5.0
The songwriting on Slave is a bit more direct than what's here and while I appreciate that it doesn't have songs that hit me quite as hard as most here do. It also meanders a bit in the second half with the instrumental songs which imo don't add that much to the album. I've only just gotten into it though so it could grow more over time.

They said 24 hours but I figure they'll just keep it up until it's been released worldwide.
Btw it's pretty amazing that it didn't leak, it's pretty rare these days that a band this high profile manages to have almost complete control over when people first hear their music. It's even more impressive considering that some press copies have been out for like a month.

you're right Boney, Slave Ambient is a bit more direct. I Was There and Baby Missiles are my two favorite WOD jams. Come to the City is also basically the best song ever.

I've always gotten more Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers vibes then Springsteen from these guys.

JWT, I've always gotten a mix of Springsteen, Petty, Dylan, and even mid-late 80s U2.
Listen to I Was There from Slave Ambient. That song is ALL Bruce.

Oh I know that song and very much enjoy Slave Ambient, I just feel the vocals and the reverb/effects on their records always seem Tom Petty influenced to me.
Side note, good to see you around Hans.

lol looks like I really picked up on the Petty vibe too. From my review from like 2011:
When Granduciel smirks “I could hear you strolling through my mind” in the overpoweringly melodic “Your Love is Calling My Name,” immediate thoughts of Tom Petty waxing about all the bad girls of the San Fernando Valley while sitting on some random Ventura Blvd building-top come roaring into the subconscious.

I hear more Springsteen than Petty but I think that's partially because Springsteen is the more emotional of the two and this band shares that emotional appeal.
If anything though Slave Ambient has a bit more of Petty than this one does.
