almost none of this is bad, just ridiculously uninspired.
That’s why I like the self titled more even tho that record definitely has shittier tracks… and as mentioned Afterlife is legit one of their best songs.
But it’s just like, even if they’re terrible, at least songs like Unbound and Dear God don’t sound like they fell asleep at the wheel.

Unbound is probably my favorite Shadows performance in the entire discography, he shouted his ass off there
edit: actually I had stitched together Unbound's chorus with Lost's verses, damn lol

Avenged Sevenfold was, is, and always will be the peak of metal music as a whole. The primal yet precise drumming, the haunting bass work, the vocal range that makes both man and woman alike moisten their underpants... they all take a back seat to the piercing harmonious dual guitar onslaught that can only be attained with Scheter brand guitars. Hail to the King is second only to LibaD in the upper echelon of music all time

Heretic still holds up. Shepherd is good too

Both are the best songs here along with Coming Home imo, the rest can kick rocks. The remaining 7 tracks are either a less interesting version of something they’ve already done or literally just plagiarism

St. James is particularly disappointing too if we wanna bring up some bonus tracks. That’s the tribute to guy that yall viewed as the most important songwriter in the band?
If the Stage and LIBAD hadn’t been so good… idk I just am imagining a world where the Rev dies and this is the last record they put out and it’s not pretty. This band would be viewed so differently if this was the last thing they ever did.
Only other thing I gotta say is Arin got a raw deal. easily the most drab drumming of any A7X record, but the dude clearly had chops shown by No Time to Die and Carry On, plus he was damn good live. I’m glad Brooks wound up in the band because I really feel like he was the shot in the arm these guys needed but Arin is almost entirely forgotten and deserves more respect.

I mean, you can find some shit on each of their records. First two albums are kinda rough around the edges and the screams suck, COE has annoying cleans, Nightmare tops them all in terms of having stupid lyrics and rips off Ride the Lightning's chorus in Buried Alive's outro, this is this, white is white, LIBAD is just weird as fuck and idk about The Stage, maybe it's a little bit boring.

they're still the second best band in the matt-fronted gay metal trinity
